Wildfire Smoke & Indoor Air

Alaska’s Wildfire Season Doesn’t Stay Outside

Every summer, Alaska burns. Millions of acres of boreal forest produce wildfire smoke that blankets Anchorage for days or weeks. And closing your windows doesn’t keep wildfire smoke out.

Fine particulate matter — PM2.5 — is small enough to infiltrate through construction gaps, HVAC intakes, and exhaust fan backdraft. Standard MERV 8 filters do not capture the smallest smoke particles.

Aurora Air Quality’s Wildfire Smoke Solutions:

  • PM2.5 testing to quantify actual indoor smoke particle levels
  • HVAC filtration upgrade to MERV 13 or higher
  • Electronic air purification systems for ultrafine particles
  • Ventilation assessment to identify smoke infiltration pathways
